Join Canon Live Learning for our series of Solar Eclipse Photography Boot Camps across the country. These events are designed to help photographers learn how to shoot the eclipse safely and creatively.\u00a0In our Boot Camps, you will have two opportunities to learn about photographing the solar eclipse \u2014 a free lecture\/demonstration and an intense hands-on photography workshop.<\/p>\n

A full solar eclipse crossing over from coast to coast is a once-in-a-generation event \u2014 an experience you will always remember, but photographing it might not be as simple as it seems. The eclipse will last just about 2 minutes and 30 seconds in most locations and carry the inherent risk of injuring your eyes or destroying your camera sensor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Preparing for the Solar Eclipse Hands-on Workshop<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Join Canon Explorer of Light Ken Sklute or Photography Instructor Dave Henry for an intensive, hands-on workshop on photographing the solar eclipse. This event was designed for the photographer who wants to leave nothing to chance when preparing to photograph the solar eclipse.<\/p>\n

In our hands-on workshop, you will learn and practice the essential steps for photographing a solar eclipse:
\n\u2022 How to choose the right camera and lens
\n\u2022 How to mount a solar filter correctly
\n\u2022 How to practice focusing and tracking the sun
\n\u2022 How to create correct exposure using solar filters
\n\u2022 How to exercise personal safety<\/p>\n

In addition, you will go through a series of shooting drills where you simulate the 17 steps you will need to take during the 2 1\/2 minutes the eclipse travels overhead. There is no room for error with this short time frame, and our drills will help build the confidence you need on August 21st.<\/p>\n

After the shoot, you will go back to the classroom where we will work through the steps of post processing your images to export spectacular imagery.<\/p>\n

Cautions<\/b>
\nNEVER<\/b>\u00a0look at the sun without accredited and approved solar filtration over your eyes. There are special solar viewing frames that can be used over your eyeglasses or solar viewing glasses for those that don\u2019t wear glasses. Permanent, irreversible eye damage and\/or blindness can result in seconds.<\/p>\n

NEVER<\/b>\u00a0point your camera into the sun without this special solar filter. All camera lenses need an accredited and approved solar filter. Not using a solar filter at eclipse magnifications will ruin your camera in seconds.<\/p>\n

NEVER<\/b>\u00a0improvise, modify or use general neutral density (ND) photography filters. They are totally insufficient to provide the protection your eyes, and your equipment, need. There are reasons for this that we\u2019ll address in an upcoming article. Buy an approved solar filter. They\u2019re inexpensive and are designed for the task.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
