Canon’s Explorer of Light- Ken Skulte

Explorer of Light-
Ken Skulte
November 15th, 2016 @ 6:00P.M.

“Capturing the Elusive Moment” Canon’s Explorer of Light “Ken Skulte” will be speaking at 777 W. Jackman Street, Lancaster.
November 15th, the LPA will host a special speaker from Canon’s Explorer of Light. He is one of the world top 42 photographers honored with this designation from Canon. Ken has enjoyed a diverse career photographing people, professional sports, architecture, weddings, and landscapes. Ken spends much of his time photographing, teaching and lecturing both Nationally and Internationally.

During Ken’s 41-year professional photography career he has accomplished the title of “Photographer of the Year” in 32 out of 41 years in the states of New York, Arizona, and California. In addition, Ken has been awarded 14 Kodak Gallery Awards, the Kodak Gallery Elite award, WPPI Grand Award for Weddings and 15 Fuji Masterpiece awards, amongst many other awards. Ken is proud to be or have been a Kodak Mentor, an Epson Mentor, an Adobe Influencer, a Delkin ImageMaker, a Datacolor Expert and an NIK Friends with Vision member.

Some of Ken’s clients have been the National Hot Rod Association, U.S. Army, Sports Illustrated, Oakley, Associated Press, National Dragster, Epson, Kodak, Newsday, as well as most of the photographic industry trade magazines.

“Capturing the Elusive Moment”
Many of us feel creatively stifled at times and find it difficult to see beyond our line of sight. Then again at times we have a very clear image but need the inspiration, knowledge, and tools to create it. It can be difficult to break the barriers needed to take us beyond our comfort zone.

Ken has had a diverse and long career in photography and continuously challenges himself to learn new techniques to create images he’s imagined first. Come learn with Ken and push yourself to reach the goals in your photography you’ve been meaning to explore but haven’t until now. Ken will share his techniques with you about photographing some rather challenging subject matter like capturing lightning, tornados, lava and the elusive Aurora Borealis. Photographing subjects that are not yet visible requires a pre-visualization process that Ken will skillfully lead you through.

You will leave with improved techniques, and an ability to see subjects like you never have before.

Please join us on November 15th at 6:00PM

Lancaster, CA 93435

Holidays on the Homestead!

Visit the Antelope Valley Indian Museum on Saturday, December 3rd from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. for Holidays on the Homestead! Originally a 1930’s homestead, the historic grounds will be decorated in vintage holiday style with live acoustic music around a campfire, a chili cook-off, tours of the grounds, a country craft boutique, real cowboy coffee brewed over the fire, and hot chocolate or cider for the kids! Explore the unique hand-built museum and whimsical grounds at night, with soft lighting, the smell of fresh greenery, and the wintery sky sparkling over the desert.

Stay warm around the blazing bonfire while cowboy-singer Michael Tcherkassky, “The Saddle Serenader”, croons the romantic poetry about life on the range that cattlemen composed by day during their journeys across the old west, and was then shared around the campfire when the sun went down. Michael has performed traditional cowboy songs and poetry for many years at the Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival and other events around the country.

The country craft boutique features one-of-a-kind handmade gifts. The crafters carry on the artistic tradition of Howard Arden Edwards, who built the Indian Museum to display his collection of American Indian artifacts. The Craftsman-style building is decorated with his colorful representations of Indian culture and creative hand-made furniture. This is a great opportunity to find unique gifts and support local artists!

Rose Edwards was known for her tasty rib-sticking chili and cornbread feasts at their holiday celebrations. Sample the chili cook-off entries and Rose’s original 1930 Christmas Chili recipe, complemented by delicious cornbread generously provided by The Lemon Leaf Café.

Event admission is $10 for adults, $5 for ages 6-12, and ages 5 and under are free. This event is a fundraiser for the non-profit Friends of the Antelope Valley Indian Museum, which provides funding to help keep the museum open.

The museum is located at 15701 East Avenue M in east Lancaster, near Lake Los Angeles. From Hwy 14, take Avenue K east, turn right on 150th Street East, and left on East Avenue M. The museum is on the left.

Contact Jean Rhyne at (661) 946-6900 or Jean.Rhyne@parks.ca.gov for information. General information about the Antelope Valley Indian Museum can be found at www.AVIM.parks.ca.gov or call (661) 946-3055 (711, TTY relay service). Please come out for this special holiday event, rain or shine, and support the museum!

From Scott Kelby

You’re Invited: Live Q&A Webcast Latest Photoshop CC Update with Scott Kelby

Hi gang—BIG NEWS! Today, Adobe released a major update to Photoshop CC with lots of amazing features, and of course, we want you to be on top of all of this (which is what this is all about), but we’ve also got some important Lightroom news, too.

Less than an hour from now (Tuesday, June 21nd, at 11am EDT), Scott Kelby is doing a LIVE Q&A session streamed on Facebook about the new release—come join us. We’re taking your questions and comments live!

IF YOU CAN’T MAKE THE QA: go check Scott’s blog—he’s got full coverage & videos posted there at scottkelby.com.

NEW CLASS: On Friday, we’re releasing a brand new class on all the new Photoshop CC 2015.5 features (yes, it’s called 2015.5 even though this is 2016. Yes, it’s a mystery).

ANOTHER NEW CLASS: Remember that poll we sent you where we asked which specific Photoshop class you wanted to learn next? Remember we said that whatever your #1 pick was, we’d produce that class next? Well, that’s what we did. Your #1 pick was Compositing, and on Friday we’re also releasing Scott’s new class on Masking Hair and Compositing (and yes, Scott had to redo the hair masking part because that’s one of the big new improvements in today’s new release of Photoshop).

MORE COMPOSITING LOVE: Scott’s compositing class is on the essentials, but we also have a new online class (just recorded literally yesterday), from the awesome Corey Barker, on Advanced Compositing techniques, and that will be rolling out within the next few weeks.

LIGHTROOM MOBILE KELBYONE MEMBER-ONLY WEBINAR TOMORROW: Adobe’s own Lightroom Mobile product manager Josh Haftel is at our studios this week, and it’s going to be a busy one:
He’s doing a LIVE special Lightroom Webinar just for KelbyOne members tomorrow (Wednesday)
He’s here taping a new Lightroom Mobile online class just for KelbyOne Members
He’s Scott’s guest this week on “The Grid” (Wednesday at 4:00pm EDT at http://kelbytv.com/thegrid

Lots of exciting stuff, and we’re so glad you’re here with us. BTW: We’ll send you a reminder tomorrow about Josh’s live KelbyOne member’s only Webinar.

Don’t forget to join us at 11:00am EDT at http://facebook.com/skelby—it’s a new Photoshop love fest!
